Finding CrossFit

Hola!

If you’re new here, well ya ain’t alone. So am I! So! Let’s do that thing where we go around the room and introduce ourselves. Fun! I’ll go first.

My name is Katie and this is my blog! I’m a 24 year old gal still finding her way in the world. So unique right? πŸ˜‚ No really I am working towards becoming a CrossFit Level 1 trainer and to becoming a Health and PE Teacher here in North Carolina. I’ve been Crossfitting since August 2017, so a little shy of 2 years! CrossFit has honestly been my fitness and wellness saving Grace and we’re not talking about the 30 Clean and Jerks for time Grace. Growing up I was the girl who was always playing sports, soccer was my sport of choice but you could find little me playing flag football with the boys. Fast forward to college and I’ve got gym phobia. I’d go to fitness classes at State, catch me on the back bike, how bout dat. I wanted to get into the main lifting areas but I was nervous, I felt like I would be judged, so I’d end up on the treadmill and that was that. But then I watched the CrossFit Games YouTube series “Road to The Games” in 2016 and decided that would be my sport. That would be my form of fitness. Notice it still took a year. 🀭 But in the spring of 2017 I did the open workout 17.1 in the back corner of NC States lifting room by myself. I’d never done a snatch before, but damn if I wasn’t in that room YouTubing and doing it. I was a broke college kid so I didn’t think I could afford the membership so I stayed away from Boxes still. After leaving college and moving to a different city I landed a job as a pet Resort manager and could finally afford that membership! So I ran to the box nearest me and joined. I met incredible and welcoming people and felt at home right away. It was a small community but I loved every second of it and gained friends that will last a lifetime though most of us are in totally separate places and gyms now. I left that box when I flew to Germany in 2018 to visit family. I was terrified of “derailing” while I was there but I purchased a barbell and filled up 2 liter water bottles and worked out every day with my sister. I hiked, I ran, I trained with what I could. I now workout alone most days or beside a CrossFit coach and another girl in my small hometown gym which houses my current “Box”. I love it. I love this sport and I can see so many changes in myself not only physically but mentally as well. The girl who couldn’t motivate herself to go into a gym because she was afraid now knows no fear in the gym. None. So I beg of you, if you’re afraid of starting, don’t be. It doesn’t have to be CrossFit. If you want to go to Kickboxing or Karate, yoga or Pilates. Find your fitness and do it.
